A38 Traffic Management Bulletin w/c 1 December 2025

A38 Little Eaton to M1 junction 28 tree removal work

We’ll be removing small sections of trees that have become diseased with Ash Die Back. We need to remove these trees to avoid the disease doesn’t spread to the surrounding trees. We’ll keep our clearance to a minimum and only remove what is essential to maintain the safety of the environment and road users.

Our work will take place from 8 December 2025 to 30 January 2026, on weeknights, between 8pm and 6am, under the following traffic management:

8 December to 14 January – full northbound closure from Little Eaton Island to Hartshay Interchange at Ripley.

15 January to 16 January – full northbound closure from Hartshay Interchange at Ripley to the A61 at Alfreton.

19 January to 21 January – full southbound closure from M1 Junction 28 to the A61 at Alfreton.

22 January to 30 January – full southbound closure from Hartshay Interchange at Ripley to Little Eaton Island.

Please note: we will not work on 18 December, 22 December to 2 January, and 5 January.

A38 Egginton: Critical Gas Diversion Works
Cadent are currently carrying out work, on behalf of National Highways, to divert approximately 140 metres of gas main that runs through the foundation of the centre pier of the A5132 bridge, that runs over the A38 at Egginton. Work started on 10 October and is expected to last for 8-10 weeks. During this time, there will be 1 lane closed in both directions that will be in place 24/7. There will also be overnight carriageway closures, between 9pm and 6am, on the following dates:

27 November – Claymills southbound exit slip road. (diversion to the Branston Junction and back)

5 December – Full southbound carriageway closure from Toyota Island to Branston Junction.

6 December – Full northbound carriageway closure from Branston Junction to Toyota Island.
