A38 Alfreton essential drainage work

We’ll be carrying out essential work to maintain the drainage system on the A38 northbound near Alfreton. Our work will include cleaning and repairs of the drainage system along this stretch. The completed work will improve drainage and will continue to provide safe journeys along the A38.

We’ll work overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from 6 October to 24 October 2025, weeknights only. To carry out our work safely, we’ll work under full northbound carriageway closures of the A38 between Watchorn Roundabout and M1 junction 28. All lay-bys between these points will need to remain closed 24/7 throughout the duration of our work.

A38 essential tree maintenance work

We’ll be carrying out essential tree maintenance work along sections of the A38 to remove and cut back trees that have become a risk of falling. We’ll only remove what is necessary to maintain the safety of road users. These works will take overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on the following dates:

Wednesday 8 October – full northbound carriageway closure between Hilliards Cross and Alrewas.

Friday 10 October – full southbound entry slip road closure at Branston junction.

During all of the above closures, we’ll have fully signed diversion routes in place. Please see the attached bulletin for details.

We’re always looking to improve the way we work. If you haven’t provided your feedback then we would like to ask you to complete a short questionnaire. If you could spare just 4 minutes (maximum) and complete the survey, click here.

Wishing you all a safe journey
